Chico Cafe opens under pay as you can model

A Chico cafe is finally doing what they've talked about doing for the last year.

100th Monkey Community Café's founder Jill Lacefield says it's been on the donation system since November 3rd, making it the newest pay as you can cafe in the U.S.

The café has a different vegetarian menu every day, with vegan and gluten free alternatives.

For the black bean quinoa burger served today, customers could pay the suggested amount, more, or less.

Chef Monica Zukrow says she enjoys feeding people and opening minds, especially those who otherwise wouldn't have a chance to eat this kind of food.

"I work hard when I'm here every day [and] when I get in my car at the end of the day, I have a smile on my face and I feel really good about what we're doing," Zukrow said.

The café is open Monday through Thursday from 7:30am to 2pm.

100th Monkey could use more volunteers and donations.

Checks can be written to Jill Lacefield at 642 West 5th, Chico, 95928
