Employees of the Work Training Center in Chico are telling city officials they need a safer way to cross Fair Street in south Chico on their way to work.
Fair Street has limited sidewalk space and no pedestrian crosswalk or intersection for nearly a mile near the Work Training Center. The center's roughly 60 employees transfer between four buildings on the street and have been requesting a crosswalk for several years now.
The city says a crosswalk, combined with the necessary signs could cost upwards of $250,000.
City officials say they would like to find a solution, but point to the fact that Fair Street is just one of many areas in Chico that need work.
