Chico Burglary suspect charged with Attempted Murder

Police have released more information about a burglary and stabbing in Chico Saturday evening.
It happened shortly after five Saturday evening at the Chico Commons apartment complex on Amanda Way.
According to police, the suspect broke a sliding glass door and entered an apartment, where a struggle ensued after he was confronted by the man who lives there.
Chico Police Sgt. Scott Ruppel said, "The resident tried to subdue the suspect and received several stab wounds and then officers were able to take that person into custody.
Police say 39 year old Jesse Phillips was stabbed once in the upper torso, but that the suspect, 49 year old Darin J. Petty, tried unsuccessfully to stab him several more times before he was subdued.

Phillips was treated at Enloe Medical Center and released. Petty was arrested for attempted murder, burglary and vandalism.
