A Chico man who pleaded guilty to making bomb threats at several local businesses in 2009 has been arrested for allegedly starting a fire that destroyed a Magalia mobile home Monday afternoon.

According to Butte County District Attorney Mike Ramsey, Matthew Ray Beard was arrested Monday night on suspicion of arson in connection with a mobile home. The fire broke out around 2:15 p.m. on the 1400 block of Carnegie Road.

The three residents escaped uninjured. It is currently unknown if Beard is a resident of the home, or has a relationship with any of the residents.

In 2009 Beard was arrested for making several bomb threats to North State businesses. In 2010 he was sentenced to prison after he pleaded no contest to four charges related to the bomb threats. Beard also allegedly called in another bomb threat from jail while awaiting sentencing, but charges were later dropped.
