Chico assault suspect arrested

Chico police have arrested a man who allegedly attacked another man with a skateboard, then ordered his dog to attack.

According to a news release from the Chico Police Department, officers responded to a group of people and dogs fighting at Annie's Glen in Chico around 4:40 p.m. Thursday.

When officers arrived they found 30-year-old Joshua Hoag with significant injuries to his face and head, and a dog bite on his upper arm.

Witnesses told police the victim had been in argument with 23-year-old Dustin Derry, when Derry talked Hoag, punched him in the head and then beat him with a skateboard. During the fight Derry's German Shepard bit Hoag.

Shortly after the assault, officers located Derry near 1st and Main Streets. He was arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon, his dog was impounded and is being held at the animal shelter.
