A group of Chico 5th graders has a unique opportunity to play ukelele with The Wellington International Ukelele Orchestra at Laxson Auditorium on the CSU, Chico Campus on Sunday, January 24th.
The Orchestra generously donated 30 ukeleles to Parkview Elementary School, where 5th graders had the chance to learn the instrument ... to accompany the group on stage during their performance here. So "The Pukes" were formed, under the direction of Music Teacher Tanner Johns. Starting in October, he students committed to practicing an hour after school, one day a week. And they get to keep their ukeleles when they're done.
They'll be performing Taylor Swift's "Shake It Off" withe The Wellington International Ukelele Orchestra ... which is kn own for its "kiwi" humor and joyful music. The rule for the show is "if you know the words, sing along. If you don't know the words, sing along!"
Tickets to the performance can be purchased through the University Box Office at the corner of 3rd and Chestnut Streets, by phoning (530) 898-6333 or at www.chicoperformances.com.
