Tehama County District Attorney Greg Cohen announced today that vehicular manslaughter charges have been filed against Chico State student Tyler Burrone for his role in a July 2013 crash near Los Molinos that killed a 5-year-old boy.

Investigators say Burrone was pulling a truck and horse trailer on Highway 99 when he ran into a Nissan, driven by Katie Ramsey, 31, of Gerber, California. Ramsey had her wheels turned left as she was prepared to make a left onto Sherman Road. Burrone's truck pushed Ramsey's car into oncoming traffic. Ramsey's car was hit by an oncoming semi, driven by Roderick Abbott, 56.

Cohen said cell phone records show Burrone was texting at the time of the crash.

Ramsey survived the crash, but her 5-year-old son Gunner Langenderfer was killed in the crash.

Neither Burrone or Abbott was injured in the crash.

If convicted Burrone faces six years in prison.
