Charges against a Redding woman accused of shooting her step father in November have been dropped, the District Attorney's office announced Tuesday.

Brittany Weatherbee told Redding Police Officers she was acting in self-defense when she shot her step-father Michael Mattson on November 15.

Weatherbee had been charged with attempted murder, but the District Attorney's office said the charges were dropped because their office did not believe they could prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.

Mattson, 35, had a history of domestic violence and had been convicted of two crimes against Weatherbee's mother in 1997. Mattson also told investigators he had used methamphetamine on the day of the shooting.
