Edward Sylva has been released from Butte County Jail after being arrested last Saturday when he was accused of trying to lure children into his van at USA Park in Oroville.
Butte County District Attorney Mike Ramsey said there was not enough evidence to move forward with the case against Sylva. He said they could not prove Sylva showed a natural interest in children or determine his intentions.
Oroville Police were called Saturday at approximately 12:30 p.m. regarding a male subject who reportedly asked a child to enter his van in the parking lot of USA Park, near the Oroville Little League Fields. The license plate and a photograph of the vehicle was obtained by witnesses in the area which led Officers to Sylva. During the investigation officers learned a 4-year-old girl was at the park last Friday with her family when she was contacted by Sylva. He asked her if she wanted to enter his van and go to the bathroom.
