SANTA MARIA, Calif. (AP) - Lunchtime fights at a Central California high school have ended with the school closed and six people in police custody.

Police and Santa Barbara County sheriff's deputies, aided by a helicopter, swarmed Righetti High School in Santa Maria at about 12:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Sheriff's spokesman Kelly Hoover tells KEYT-TV that six people are in custody.

The Santa Maria Times has a video on its website that appears to show a school security officer punching a girl. A student says a group of girls rushed the officer.

School district spokesman Kenny Klein says the trouble started when two girls began fighting. Two boys then got into a second fight.

Authorities say a sheriff's deputy working as campus security called for backup after he was struck by food.

No injuries are reported.
