A dramatic arrest is caught on tape in Oroville Thursday afternoon, the end of a reported kidnapping that started in Chico. Cell phone video was shot by an Action News Now viewer who just happened to be driving along Montgomery Street when this all went down. Chico police say around 2 pm Thursday 20 year-old Dalan Johnson stole his ex-girlfriends red Mercury SUV with her and their 3 year-old son inside. The unidentified woman told officers that she and the child had been taken against their will. The mother hopped out of the SUV at Highway 99 and Neal road. The SUV was spotted by police in Oroville. While fleeing from police, Johnson crashed the vehicle into a concrete planter on the sidewalk at Meyers and Montgomery then took off on foot. Officers caught up with him a couple blocks later where they say he resisted arrest. When a taser failed to stop him, officers tackled the suspect to the ground and he was eventually subdued. As for the child, he was safe. It turns out Johnson had dropped the three year old off at the home of a family members. Johnson was booked into the Butte County Jail and is facing numerous charges, including kidnapping, vehicle theft, and resisting arrest.
