Catalyst marks Domestic Violence Awareness Month

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, a time to mourn those who have died because of intimate partner abuse, to celebrate those who have survived, to raise awareness and to connect those who work to end the violence.

Catalyst Domestic Violence Services in Chico reports 1 in 3 people will experience relationship violence at least once in their lifetime, and 75 percent of us know at least one person who has been a victim of domestic violence.

There are a wide range of activities planned this month for education and outreach.

On October 20th, Catalyst and the Gender Equality and Equity Center at CSU, Chico are partnering to present the documentary "Private Violence." Filmmaker Cynthia Hill examines the case of Deanna Walters, a survivor of spousal abuse who embarks ona crusade for justice. It's taking place in BMU 203 at 6:30 p.m.

On October 22nd Catalyst presents the first ever "Love is..." Acoustic Showcase. It's a celebration of healthy relationships featuring local musicians performing their favorite love songs. It takes place at the 1078 Gallery, 920 Broadway. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the music runs from 7 - 9 p.m. $5 donation suggested at the door.

Also October 22nd is a fundraiser at the T Bar. The business will donate 20% of the evening's proceeds to Catalyst Domestic Violence Services. T Bar is located at 555 Flying V Street. From 5-8 p.m.

October 23rd Catalyst partners with Tacos El Caporal for "A Place at the Table", an event designed to honor the memory of those who are no longer with us because of domestic violence. 6150 Clarke Road, 11 a.m .- 3 p.m. More restaurants may also take part on October 24th in the Chico area.
