OXNARD, Calif. (AP) - Ventura County prosecutors have dropped their case against a woman accused of killing her Olympic medalist husband, but say they'll file a new one.
The Ventura County star reports Friday that the move is an apparent attempt to delay the trial of 57-year-old Jane Laut in the 2009 killing of Dave Laut.
It came after a judge denied for the third time a request to delay trial. Jane Laut had been free on bail but was rearrested in the court hallway after the hearing.
Her attorney Ron Bamieh called the prosecution's move "unprofessional" and "pretty much unprecedented."
Jane Laut had pleaded not guilty in the killing of Dave Laut, a star shot-putter who won a bronze medal in the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. They were high school sweethearts and married for 29 years.
