A Butte County judge today awarded an Oroville contractor's bid to purchase and take over the rundown 16-unit Carousel Motel, which was taken into receivership earlier this year after the town of Paradise declared the motel a public nuisance.

Paradise town officials say the motel has been the subject of numerous police and fire calls over the years.

The property's owner, 83-year-old Rose Kallunki, who must now follow the court's order to sell the property, has been ordered to leave her apartment within the next two weeks, according to her son, James Parker.

Parker, told Action News Now that the court order leaves her mother with "nothing" even though he and his brother have tried to fix the motel up so they could sell the property on their own.

Soon-to-be new owner Tyler Edwards said he may rehab the motel, convert the property into senior housing or build a mini-storage on the land.
