Carjacker wrecks stolen vehicle, get arrested for fifth time in 2016

A frightening ordeal for a Redding man, the victim of a hijacking today.

The victim, 27-year old Steven Mieger, told police the suspect asked for a ride at the Circle K on Westwood Village and when he said no the suspect threatened to shoot him.

That's when the gunman got into Mieger's vehicle and ordered Mieger to drive him toward Twin View Boulevard.

Once in the area, Mieger tried to get out of the vehicle, however the suspect ordered Mieger to get into the passenger seat.

The suspect started to drive away and Mieger was able to get out and call police.

When police arrived, they spotted the suspect in the stolen vehicle. The driver fled and rolled the vehicle on the north bound i-5 off ramp at Pine Grove Avenue.

The suspect was identified as 33-year old Brett Norris of Red Bluff.

Norris was booked into the Shasta County Jail for carjacking and kidnapping.

He faces an additional charge for driving under the influence of alcohol.

This is Norris' fifth arrest since the beginning of the year on vehicle theft related charges. ###
