A man who caused an hours-long standoff outside the California Capitol says he had to do something drastic because someone was conspiring to kill him.
According to the Associated Press, Edgar Napoles Rodriguez told reporters in Sacramento this week that his life was in danger because of an insurance scam and he resorted to the standoff after an officer rebuffed earlier pleas for help.
He did not specify who wanted to harm him or why, and insisted he' mentally competent and not using drugs.
Police have declined to comment on Napoles Rodriguez' mental state.
He was appointed a public defender during his arraignment Wednesday, on charges of making a bomb threat and resisting an officer ... after barricading himself in a graffiti-covered car outside the Capitol Monday.
