Cancer Fundraiser at Thunderhill Raceway

Hooked on Driving has been providing high performance driver training for the past 8 years, something bay area dentist Derric DesMarteau was plenty familiar with. He participated in the program before losing a battle with prostate cancer in 2009. Since then, the group has put on an annual fundraiser at Thunderhill Raceway in Willows to remember Derric by raising money for the Prostate Cancer Foundation.

David Ray from Hooked on Driving says, "This was one of his favorite tracks. He drove a Porsche (at Thunderhill) and had a blast. So we remember him while we're on the track."

Hooked on Driving gives people the chance to develop their driving skills in a rare setting, on the racetrack.

"This program is oriented towards just regular folks who enjoy driving. They don't have to have race cars. We don't race. We don't compete. We let you drive your car on a track and have fun with it in a safe environment," says Ray.

In the case of Derric's day, people can make a donation to be able to get a ride around the track in some exotic cars. We're talking everything from Ferraris to suped-up Corvettes. Ray says he often gets the same response from participants.

"I have people all the time say this is the most fun I've ever had in my life," he says.
