Caltrans officials are busy preparing the roads for the heavy rains and strong winds we expect Wednesday night's winter storm to produce.
After wildfire season, debris need to be cleaned off roadways and ditched before the storm arrives. To prepare, Caltrans District 2 in Redding has added 50 seasonal staff members to the 300 already employed.
During a big storm Caltrans advises that motorists keep off the road unless you absolutely need to travel. Officials say if you do have to be on the road, drive slow and pack a blanket and water in case you become stuck or stranded.
