Caltrans honoring fallen workers

The California Department of Transportation, Caltrans district 2 is honoring 14 fallen workers in a ceremony today.

Since 1921, 182 Caltrans employees have lost their lives on the job.

This year’s memorial will pay special tribute to the two Caltrans employees, Shawn Baker and Robert Jones, who were fatally injured on April 24, 2013 while performing a rock scaling operation near Happy Camp. “These men, as well as the 12 others we will honor on the 22nd, lost their lives improving safety for motorists in Northern California. It is a stark reminder of the hazards our state highway workers face every day and reinforces the fact that safety is and must remain our number one priority,” said District 2 Director John Bulinski.

Caltrans would like to remind the public to move over if safe or slow down when they see Caltrans vehicles flashing warning lights along the side of the highways.

Action News Now reporter Charlene Cheng will have more on this story tonight at 5 and 6 pm.
