Caltrans has announced today the closure of a major highway intersection on Friday for those traveling on Highways 70 and 20 through the heart of Marysville.
Caltrans urges motorists to drive slowly as they encounter temporary one-way streets in sections of 8th and D Streets in Marysville during a month-long closure of the intersection of 9th and E streets. Crews are expected to begin the third stage of a nearly $50 million reconstruction project early Friday morning.
Simultaneously, the stoplights at the intersections of E Highway 70 and 8th Streets and D and 9th Streets will be turned off until the third stage of construction is completed at the end of August.
Commuters are advised to allow additional travel time and use the alternative routes, and truckers are urged to follow alternative routes as well.
Caltrans states they have been reconstructing major segments of Highways 20 and 70 with reinforced concrete, asphalt repaving, upgraded drainage systems, new traffic signals and other improvements designed to reduce traffic delays and ease access to downtown businesses. According to their press release, Caltrans stated the road work will be done in 13 separate stages over the next two years.
