Hundreds of California’s top yo-yo players gathered in downtown Chico for the state championships Saturday.
The championship featured more than 100 contestants participating in five divisions.
It's one of the largest championships of its kind in the nation.
Organizers say the event helps set the standard for yo-yo competitions.
"What we're trying to do is export what happens in Chico to other communities,” said Bob Malowney, a co-organizer for the event. “Our understanding of what it takes to make kids love yo-yo's and play with yo-yo's. There has to be more contests because there's a lot more kids wanting to play."}
Saturday's event is the first time the state championship has been held in Chico since 1993.
Since then, it's been moved to various locations across the state with the national championship being held in Los Angeles.
