SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - Pacific Gas & Electric is reporting tens of thousands of power outages in San Francisco Bay Area as one of the windiest and rainiest storms in five years hit Northern California.

The utility says the outages are spread across the Bay Area. Officials weren't immediately available to give a specific number.

A spokesman for Bay Area Rapid Transit says a PG&E transformer appeared to have malfunctioned near the system's Montgomery Street station. Jim Allison says the station has been shut to trains.

The San Francisco Bay Ferry reports on its website that at least 10 ferry departures around the Bay Area were canceled Thursday due to weather conditions.

The Federal Aviation Administration reports that some arriving flights at San Francisco International Airport are facing delays averaging three hours and 40 minutes.
