COMPTON, Calif. (AP) - A Southern California woman has been sentenced to three consecutive life terms in prison with no possibility of parole in the stabbing deaths of her three young daughters.
Superior Court Judge Ricardo Ocampo sentenced 32-year-old Carol Ann Coronado to life in prison despite hearing pleas for leniency.
Ocampo said that while Coronado needs treatment, "the treatment will have to be in state prison."
Coronado was convicted for first-degree murder in the May 2014 killings of 2-year-old Sophia, 16-month-old Yazmine and 2-month-old Xenia in November.
Coronado's attorney maintains she was suffering from postpartum depression at the time of the killings and asked the judge to send her to a mental hospital instead of jail.
Ocampo ruled she was sane at the time of the murders.
