LANCASTER, Calif. (AP) - A 64-year-old man is accused of shooting his wife in the abdomen during an argument over financial issues at a Christmas party in their home.
City News Service reports that paramedics rushed the man's wife to the hospital, where she's in stable condition.
Los Angeles county Sheriff's deputies responded to the home in Lancaster at 12:30 a.m. Thursday and found Thomas Silas in the front yard still holding his handgun.
Silas was booked on suspicion of attempted murder and domestic violence. He's being held in lieu of $1 million bail and is scheduled to appear court Monday.
The couple's adult daughter and other family were at the holiday party when the argument erupted.
Authorities say Silas retrieved his handgun and told his wife to shoot him. When she declined, he shot her.
