SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. (AP) - A Southern California man has been convicted of raping and killing a 71-year-old neighbor whose body was found 110 feet down a mineshaft.

San Bernardino County prosecutors say 20-year-old Jesse Rose of Red Mountain was convicted Friday of murder, elder abuse resulting in death and forcible rape. He's facing life in prison without chance of parole.

Authorities say last April, Rose stabbed Sandra McKinney 26 times, mainly in the face, head and neck.

Her body was found in a mineshaft near her Red Mountain home after sheriff's deputies found her truck in the Mojave Desert and blood in the house.

Rose was arrested in May at a relative's house in Las Vegas.

No motive for the attack was given during his trial.
