SAN DIEGO (AP) - A research firm says California home sales rose for the first time in a year in September as price increases moderated.
CoreLogic DataQuick said Tuesday that the median sales price for new and existing houses and condominiums was $389,000 last month, up 10 percent from the same period a year earlier. It is the 31st straight month of annual increases.
More than 36,300 homes sold during September, up 1 percent from the same period of 2013. It is the first annual increase in a year and the highest September sales tally in five years.
The median sales price in Southern California reached $413,000, slightly below a fresh seven-year high set in August. The San Francisco Bay area's median sales price was $604,000.
