Many know him from 'Footloose' or 'Wildthings', but Kevin Bacon is in Chico Saturday and ready to rock for a good cause.
Kevin and his brother Michael are performing a benefit concert for California Dream Week, an event that allows creative high school students the opportunity to win scholarship money and funds for their high school. Event Coordinator Melisa Lasell says, "The schools need help right now and part of california dream week is to raise money for our north state schools and scholarships for our creative kids."
44 students entered their sustainable ideas into the program, in schools from Monterey to the Oregon border.. The projects were then divided into three different categories.. "Architecture and design, transportation and product compliments.. And the winning projects were matched up with designers from around the world," Melisa says.
The top seven finalists, three of which are from Butte County, have their designs on display in many Chico businesses as a part of the California Dream Week festivities.. One of the local stores that decided to donate a window for the four day event is Cycle Sport on Main Street.. Mike Peavy, Owner of Cycle Sport says, "We like helping kids and we like the arts.. We put it together and it's money for scholarships and its good for everybody."
This week's festivities have brought visitors in from all over, even as far as New York, to participate in the raffles, a downtown treasure hunt, the Bacon Brothers concerts, and the display of these creative projects.. All meant to help California schools and their students.
