CalFIRE Staffing Up For Red Flag Conditions

May 31, 2013 7:33 PM

High winds, Low humidity and temperatures nearing triple digits have sparked the first red flag warning of fire season.
CalFIRE is staffing up with extra engine companies at some stations and are strategically placing water tenders in areas so they are ready to quickly respond to any fires in the area.
With the dry conditions, firefighters say homeowners should avoid using their lawn mowers and other electric yard tools this weekend.
"They need to do that early in the morning when the humidities are high. That is not the case for these next four, five or six days, until the weather pattern breaks," Battalion Chief Dan Summerville said.
The red flag warning is set to expire at 7 p.m. Saturday.
A burn ban is now in effect in butte and Shasta counties.
