CalFire in Butte County is coming up with ways to cut back on water usage, following a directive from Governor Jerry Brown. Firefighters say conditions are so parched that they reflect dryness not usually seen until late June. In January, Governor Brown issued a 'Drought State of Emergency.' In response, CalFire has cut back on usage in typical ways, like watering only necessary vegetation and only in cooler hours. In Butte County, instead of using fire hydrants to pull water from for training, they'll take water from the Thermalito Forebay, then put it back when they're done. They say most people are getting the message about defensible space, which makes a huge difference in the safety of residents and firefighters.
