Cal Fire and the City of Chico have renewed an agreement that will keep the Chico Air Attack Base around for at least 25 more years.
The Cal Fire Air Attack Base has been operating at its present location at the Chico Airport for 47 years.
Built in 1968, the Chico Air Attack Base is centrally located in Northern California and is home to one air attack plane and one air tanker during fire season.
In addition to the two regular planes, the airport's long runway and ample aircraft parking space allows all types of large air tankers to operate out of the airport when wildfires breakout.
"The Butte Unit is very fortunate to have this facility, equipment and personnel available at a moment's notice" stated Chief Greg McFadden.
