Cal Fire: Eiler Fire grows to nearly 30,000 acres

Cal Fire officials say the Eiler Fire grew to 29,827 acres overnight and still remains 0 percent contained.

Officials say the Eiler Fire has destroyed eight homes and 20 outbuildings after nearly quadrupling in size over the weekend.

Evacuations orders remain in effect for the communities of Hat Creek, Cassel, Big Eddy Estates, and Johnson, and an evacuation advisory remains in effect for the town of Burney.

Evacuation centers have been set up at Fall River High School, 44215 Walnut St. in McArthur and Foothill High School, 9733 Deschutes Rd. in Palo Cedro.

The fire began Thursday evening about six miles north of Old Station in the Thousands Lakes Wilderness Area early Thursday evening. The fire was sparked by lightning.

Officials with the United States Forest Service say the estimated date of containment is August 20.
