Cal Fire: Annual burn ban to be declared June 1

May 29, 2014 3:25 PM

The suspension of burn permits is being enacted early this year due to the lack of winter rain.

Starting at midnight on Saturday May 31 open burning of dooryard debris piles will be banned in Butte County. The proclamation affects the unincorporated areas of Butte County only and the suspension will remain in effect until the Fire Chief determines it is safe to resume burning countywide.

The cities of Biggs and Gridley will not be affected by the burn permit suspension and the City of Chico does not allow dooryard burning at any time during the year.

Oroville and Paradise are also suspending dooryard burning as of June 1.

Debris burning is historically one of the leading causes of fires in Butte County. Individuals found burning during the suspension period will be subject to appropriate civil or criminal action.
