United States Senator Barbara Boxer issued a statement today after last night’s deadly crash.

Boxer said “As a mother and a grandmother, this disaster strikes my heart. Words cannot express the sadness I feel for the families who have lost children in this tragic crash, and I am praying for a speedy recovery for all those who were injured. “My office has been in contact with the National Transportation Safety Board, which has sent a team to the scene to investigate the crash, and we will be briefed later today.”

North State Assemblyman Dan Logue also released a statement earlier this morning:

"My condolences go out to the victims and families of everyone that were involved in this tragedy. I am working closely with state and local law enforcement to ensure that we are doing everything we can to assist the families and students during this difficult time.

I would like to thank the California Highway Patrol, local fire department and emergency responders, and the entire Orland community for their hard work, and pledge to remain close by without interfering to ensure any support at the state level that is needed is being delivered.

The people of the North State are giving, strong people who I know will help me ensure that each one of the visiting students who are here has everything they need to be as comfortable as possible until we can get them home safely.”

These statements come following Governor Jerry Brown making a public announcement last night, just hours after the crash.
