For the first time in 27 years, the Butte College softball team enters the NorCal regional playoffs as a Golden Valley Conference titleholder. But that wasn't enough to garner a first-round home playoff series from the seeding committee.

Butte (31-9) earned an 11-seed and will hit the road to play sixth-seeded Cabrillo College in Aptos in a best-of-three series starting Saturday at 2 p.m.

The second game is scheduled for May 3 at noon and if necessary, the third game will be played at 2 p.m., with the winner advancing to the Super Regional.

Butte heads into the match-up red hot from the plate. The Roadrunners batted .355 as a team, led by Pleasant Valley High product Kiley Mansfield, who possesses a conference leading.504 batting average, along with 4 home-runs, 41 runs batted, and 40 runs scored. Another hot hitter is Taylor Peters, who slugged her way to a .442 batting average with 7 home-runs, 31 runs batted in, 58 runs scored and 29 steals.

Ariel De Trinidad and Jessie Salsbury figure to get most of the work on the mound. De Trinidad ranked second in conference with a 2.10 ERA, and Salsbury ranked first with 17 wins and 141 strikeouts.
