Butte football drops season-opener to Chabot

The Butte College football team started out the season with a 30-9 loss to Chabot College in Hayward.

Butte's offense, led by sophomore quarterback Tommy Hays, struggled throughout the night picking up just 205 yards of total offense.

Hays completed 7-of-11 passes for 70 yards with no touchdowns and three interceptions.

Roadrunners running back Trevor Bearden rumbled for 70 yards on 18 carries, while Martin Fleming ran for four yards and one touchdown.

The Butte defense had tough time stopping the Gladiators rushing attack, as they racked up 278 total rushing yards. Quarterback Jose Ferreira and running back Ondre Rudolph combined for 214 rushing yards with three touchdowns. Ferreira also threw for 151 passing yards while completing an impressive 19-of-20 passes.

Butte will try to bounce back in the home opener next Saturday at 1 p.m. against Santa Rosa.
