For the first time since the 2006 season, the Butte College football team is 0-3.
The Roadrunners fell to College of San Mateo, the third ranked team in the state, 56-27 Saturday at Bulldog Stadium.
Butte started hot, scoring the first 14 points of the game, but College of San Mateo quickly woke up and proceeded to hang 35 unanswered points on Butte.
Bulldogs quarterback Dru Brown threw for 273 yards with three scores. Running back Joey Wood carved up the Runners defense to the tune of 145 yards and three touchdowns. Ramiah Marshall added 6 carries for 69 yards with a score. Wide receiver Jonny Niupalu hauled in 4 catches for 153 yards and one touchdown.
College of San Mateo outgained Butte on offense 578 to 363.
Roadrunners quarterback Tommy Hays went 12 of 19 for 136 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions. He added 43 yards on the ground. Martin Fleming paced the Butte ground attack with 15 carries for 87 yards. Trevor Bearden rumbled for 47 yards and two scores.
Butte defensive back Saint Evans III grabbed his second interception of the season.
Butte will try to right the ship next Saturday against Fresno City College at 6 p.m. at Harrison Stadium.
