Poll workers have been busy gearing up for the special election on Tuesdat. The election will determine whether republican Jim Nielsen or democrat Mickey Harrington will take over the fourth senate district seat.

There are 123,000 registered voters in Butte County and so far only 35-percent of the absentee ballots have been turned in for the special election. Officials believe people don't know about the election and thats why they aren't voting.

Its very rare to have a special election but since Doug Lamalfa was elected to congress, the fourth senate district seat needs to be filled with either republican Jim Nielsen or democrat Mickey Harrington.

Judging by the low numbers of absentee ballots turned in so far. Butte County clerk and recorder Candace Grubbs believes their won't be a full house at the voting polls come election day.

The 95-precincts will be open to voters Tuesday January eighth from seven a-m until eight p-m.
