Butte County tourism plan up for vote

A plan for tourism business improvement for Butte County could move forward tomorrow without the support of the city of Gridley.

The district would raise an estimated $550,000 a year from a new 2 percent per night fee at local hotels and motels to promote local tourism.

Up to this point, every Butte County city, expect Gridley, has pledged suppoty.

The city of Gridley has voted against the idea twice with council members Bruce Johnson, Roy Borges and Jeff Draper voting against the plan both times.

County officials say the plan can move forward without Gridley, but that would mean the district could not promote any Gridley attractions, including the annual Butte County Fair.

The meeting begins at 9 a.m. Tuesday in Oroville.
