Butte County Supervisors to address sheriff staffing shortage

Feb 23, 2015 7:55 PM

The Butte County Sheriff's Office is desperately seeking more money from the county to help fill vacant positions and keep deputies already in the department..

Due to so many vacant positions Sheriff Kory Honea has deputies working 12-hour shifts to protect citizens. In an effort to fill 14 vacancies Honea is asking the board of supervisors for a 5 percent raise. The raise will be for deputies who have at least one year of experience.

"Perhaps encourage lateral applicants, people who are working for other departments to check out the Butte County Sheriffs Office and perhaps come and work for us because there will be that added incentive and hopefully it will encourage those who work for us to stay." says Sheriff Kory Honea.

The Butte County Board of Supervisors will address the proposal on Tuesday at 9:20 A.M.
