Butte County officially declared a local drought emergency Tuesday, in response to an increase in dried up residential wells.

The procolmation will allow the county to access more resources to better assist residents with dry wells.

The full level of assistance for residential well owners whose wells have gone dry still remains to be determined, but a drinking water station has already been set up in Oroville at Oro Quincy Highway and Kelly Ridge Road.

In Chico, Butte County and Cal Water Chico are teaming up to help residential well owners, who starting at 5 p.m. will be able to get up to 500 gallons of water each day at filling stations across the county.
