Butte County supervisors approve raise for deputies

The Butte County Board of Supervisors Tuesday approved a five percent raise for some sheriff's deputies.

The board unanimously voted to allow Sheriff Kory Honea to eliminate four of his departments 14 vacant positions. The elimination of those positions frees up money for the raised for current deputies who have been with the department for at least a year.

The move is part of an effort by Sheriff Honea to retain deputies, but also better compete with other law enforcement agencies when it comes to recruiting new officers.
