The Butte County Sheriff's Office is putting a young Belgium Malinois through the paces.
The K-9 Unit is testing "Colt," a one-year old dog who could become the team's newest member. Thursday, the team took the dog to an empty structure and commanded him to find a hidden suspect. They say he performed well, and was rewarded by being allowed to bite a deputy in a puffy "bite suit."
The unit is looking for a dog that has "drive" to chase a suspect. If Colt passes several tests over the next few weeks, he'll be used on patrol chasing and finding hidden suspects, and for sniffing out drugs.
