Low demand for water at Chico’s emergency filling station has prompted officials to make water available by appointment only.
Appointments for the station at 1951 Locust Avenue are available on Tuesdays beginning at 5 p.m. and on Saturdays beginning at 9 a.m.
Residents who need emergency water should call the Office of Emergency Management at (530) 538-7631 to schedule an appointment.
The water can be used for everyday household functions, such as showering, doing laundry, and flushing toilets, but residents should use bottled water for drinking.
The Butte County Office of Emergency Management originally opened the Emergency Water Filling Station on July 28, 2015 with hours on Tuesdays from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to noon in order to provide water to residential well owners whose wells were dry or not producing adequate water because of the drought. Due to low demand for the emergency water, and in order to efficiently use County staff time, the emergency water is now available by appointment only.
