Residential dooryard burning will be permitted in the unincorporated areas of Butte County with a current burning permit. A permit can be obtained at any Cal Fire or Butte County Fire Station.
Cal Fire would like to remind everyone of the following burn guidelines:
ü Burning hours are 6:00 – 11:00 a.m.
ü Before burning in Butte County, you MUST call the Butte County Air Quality Management District (BCAQMD) at 332-9407 or toll free at 1-855-332-9407 or at www.bcaqmd.org to determine burn day status and to familiarize yourself with BCAQMD regulations for your area.
ü Do not burn on windy days.
ü Burn only clean, dry, vegetative waste such as leaves, pine needles, and yard clippings.
ü Drying times apply for the burning of vegetative waste. Contact the BCAQMD for more information.
ü Piles can be no larger than four feet in diameter and four feet high.
ü Provide a 10 foot, bare mineral soil perimeter around the burn pile.
ü If burning on a lot less than one acre in size, all open fires should be located more than twenty-five (25) feet from the nearest occupied dwelling on any adjacent parcel.
ü Keep a water source handy such as a charged garden hose.
ü Property owners can be held civilly and criminally liable if a fire escapes their control and/or burns onto a neighboring property.
