Butte County CAL FIRE prepares for fire threat this weekend

Butte County Cal FIRE has increased their staffing on engines and have fully staffed their Chico Air Attack Base and Dozer units through Saturday as gusty winds and overall low humidity are projected in the current forecast.

In addition to the increased staffing, the Butte County Air Quality District will designate Thursday, Friday, and Saturday as “No Burn Days” at all elevations.

CAL FIRE estimates the north to northwest winds to reach between 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph.

Along with complying with the no burn regulations, CAL FIRE stated in its press release today any burn piles that may have been active in the past few days should be checked for hot embers and ashes from wood stoves are out cold before dumping.

“The high, erratic winds and predicted low humidity’s can cause even old [burn] piles to reignite and quickly spread” stated CAL FIRE Unit Chief Greg McFadden.
