The Butte County Inter-Agency Bomb Squad was called out to a residence on Faunce Way in Oroville after a woman discovered explosive devices in her home.
The woman contacted the Butte County Sheriff’s Office around 1:45 p.m. yesterday after discovering a box she had not seen before while cleaning out some old items left behind by her deceased husband. According to the Sheriff’s Office, the woman was concerned because the box was located in an area of the home where her husband used to keep ammunition and military surplus supplies. Responding deputies found containers of black powder and other military grade explosive devices.
The items were eventually seized by the bomb squad and taken to a safe location where they were destroyed with the use of counter charges last night.
The Sheriff’s Office urges anyone if they locate any potentially explosive devices to stay away from them and contact law enforcement immediately.
