A Salinas man who committed a string of bank robberies in Butte County earlier this year has been sentenced to 25 years to life in prison.

Joe Fedrico-Nunez Martinez, 46, is responsible for robberies at the U.S. Bank on E. 2nd Street in Chico, the Rabobank on Pearson Road in Paradise, and the Rabobank on East Avenue in Chico. All three Butte County robberies occurred over a seven day span in June of 2015.

Chico police were shown surveillance video of the robberies and Martinez was arrested in the parking lot of a motel on Manzanita Avenue June 24.

Martinez admitted to two other bank robberies in the Castro Valley area and one in Salinas.

Authorities in Salinas dismissed their case against Martinez as an inducement to plead in Chico.

Butte County District Attorney Mike Ramsey noted the defendant had an extensive criminal history, including a bank robbery in Monterey County in 1991 and two more in Monterey County in 2002. Each of those counted as a “strike” under California’s three-strike law, Ramsey said.
