Butte County Sheriff's detectives stumbled onto an explosive device on some property in rural Butte County today. The investigators were serving a search warrant on the property off Galen Ridge Road near Berry Creek about 7am, when they found the device. The Butte County Bomb Squad was then called out and remain at the scene at this hour. Sheriff Kory Honea says investigators were pursuing a lead to last week's double homicide near that location.

The victims were found in a vehicle in that area off Galen Ridge road. Sheriff Honea says he doesn't believe the explosive device is related to the homicides. The bodies of Olga Kroencke, 56 and her husband, Mike Kroencke, 59, of Cromberg in Plumas County, were found Sunday, December, 21 in a vehicle

The couple had a home and relatives in the area. A family member had reported them missing after they hadn't arrived at their planned destination in Oroville.

Sheriff honea, today, wouldn't release any new information on the killings and would not comment on the cause of deaths, because the investigation is still underway. No arrests have been made in the murders. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Butte County Sheriff's Office at 538-7321.
