Butte College Nutrition Teacher remembered as intelligent, helpful, selfless

Family and colleagues are mourning the loss of a longtime Butte College teacher who died in a fatal car accident along Highway 99 last Friday.

58-year-old Jane Rodgers was Associate Faculty at Butte College's Food and Nutrition Department for 22 years, where she taught two Introductory Nutrition classes.

Colleagues say Rodgers craved one-on-one interaction with students, faculty, and people in the real world who needed nutrition guidance.

She filled that hunger at Far Northern Regional Center, where she worked as an independent contractor since 1999.

Nutrition Faculty Member Brenda Stagner said she saw Rodgers the day of her death at an all-staff meeting.

“She’s brought a lot to our profession, to the community,” said Stagner. “She's touched a lot of lives, she has a very unique practice in dietetics and nutrition support and so on, and there's going to be a big void.”

CHP said the investigation into Friday's deadly accident is ongoing.

A GMC truck drifted into Rodgers' lane and hit her head-on.
