Dr. Samia Yaqub was unanimously selected as the next Superintendent/President of Butte College, the Butte College Board announced Wednesday.

Yaqub served as the interim Superintendent/President of Butte College for nine months. Yaqub will be permanently installed as Superintendant/President beginning July 1.

“The Board of Trustees is pleased to have selected Dr. Samia Yaqub, who not only demonstrates stellar leadership qualities, but has been a committed educator in our local communities for over 30 years,” said Rick Krepelka, President of the Butte-Glenn Community College District Board of Trustees. “Our selection process, though arduous, was thorough, thoughtful and inclusive. The Board appreciates the work done by Trustee McGinnis and all the members of the selection committee in forwarding a very qualified slate of finalists. While Dr. Yaqub’s achievements and experience put her at the top of the list, it is her demonstrated passion for education and its ability to improve people’s lives that makes her such a great fit for this College and the communities it serves.”

Yaqub has worked at Butte College for more than 30 years, and served as the Vice President for Student Learning and Economic Development at Butte College since 2011.

“It is an honor to serve as the next Superintendent/President of Butte College. This is a remarkable college, dedicated to teaching excellence and focused on student success. Our local communities rely on us to prepare students for careers and to transfer, and we have a long history of commitment to this mission. I am excited about our future and absolutely thrilled to serve the students, faculty, staff and community in this new role,” said Dr. Samia Yaqub.
